FYP: The 'For You Page' — TikTok's algorithmic main feed, where most discovery happens.
Fit check: A short video or photo showing off an outfit, usually with a turn and close-up detail shots.
GRWM: 'Get Ready With Me' — a format that narrates the process of getting dressed or ready, building to a finished look.
Haul: A video showing off a batch of recent purchases, at its best styled rather than just unboxed.
Hook: The first one to three seconds of a video, engineered to stop the scroll and earn the next few seconds of attention.
Micro-trend: A fast-rising, fast-dying trend with a very short lifecycle, often burning out in weeks.
OOTD: 'Outfit Of The Day' — a tag for a single day's look.
Retention: The share of a video people actually watch. High retention signals the algorithm to push it to more feeds.
Transition: An editing cut that seamlessly swaps one outfit or scene for another, a signature move of fashion TikTok.

Beaters: Sneakers worn casually and roughly, with no effort to keep them pristine.
Break: How a trouser hem folds where it meets the shoe; a 'stack' is extra fabric pooling over the sneaker.
General Release: A sneaker made in large quantities and widely available at retail — the opposite of a limited drop.
On-feet: Footage or photos of a sneaker actually being worn, to show how it looks in real life versus on a shelf.
Restock: When a sold-out item is made available to buy again.

Colorway: The specific color combination a garment or sneaker is released in; the same silhouette can have many colorways.
Cop: To buy something. 'Cop or drop?' asks whether a piece is worth buying or should be passed on.
Deadstock: Brand-new, never-worn stock in original condition, often older. Prized in both resale and vintage circles.
Drop: A limited release of a product at a set date and time, often in small quantities to create demand and urgency.
Fit: Slang for an outfit ('a clean fit'); also describes how a garment sits on the body.
Grail: A holy-grail piece — the rare, highly-coveted item a collector wants most and will wait years to find.
Heat: Slang for especially desirable, impressive pieces or outfits — 'that jacket is heat.'
Hypebeast: Someone who chases trendy, logo-heavy 'hyped' pieces largely for status. 'Hype' itself is the buzz and demand around a drop.
OG: 'Original' — an original release or colorway, or a longtime, authentic member of a scene.
Reseller: Someone who buys limited items to resell above retail on the secondary market; resale is that whole economy.
Silhouette: The overall shape an outfit or garment creates on the body — boxy, cropped, baggy, tapered. Often what makes or breaks a fit.
Streetwear: Casual fashion rooted in skate, surf, hip-hop and youth subculture, built on limited drops, graphic tees, hoodies and sneakers.

60-30-10: A color-balance rule for fits: about 60% a dominant color, 30% a secondary, 10% an accent.
Layering: Combining multiple garments — tee, overshirt, jacket — for warmth, texture and visual depth.
Monochrome: A one-color or tonal outfit built from shades of a single hue.
Statement piece: The single bold item an outfit is built around, with everything else kept simple to support it.

Capsule wardrobe: A small, curated set of versatile, mix-and-match pieces that combine into most of your outfits.
Depop: A popular app and marketplace for buying and selling secondhand and vintage fashion, big with Gen Z.
Fast fashion: Cheap, rapidly-produced trend clothing with a high environmental and labor cost.
Slow fashion: Buying fewer, better, longer-lasting garments as a deliberate counter to fast fashion.
Thrift flip: Buying a secondhand garment and altering or restyling it into something new and more wearable.
Thrifting: Shopping secondhand at charity or thrift stores for cheap, unique, or vintage finds.
Upcycling: Remaking old, worn, or damaged clothing into a higher-value new piece rather than discarding it.
Vintage: Genuinely old garments, generally 20+ years old — distinct from merely secondhand or used.

Archive fashion: Collecting and wearing rare pieces from designers' past runway collections; 'archive heads' hunt specific seasons.
Blokecore: Retro football (soccer) jerseys and terrace-casual pieces styled as everyday streetwear; born from UK fan culture.
Gorpcore: An aesthetic built from technical outdoor gear — shell jackets, fleece, ripstop, trail runners — worn in the city, not on a trail.
Normcore: Deliberately plain, unremarkable basics worn as an anti-fashion statement.
Old money: A preppy, heritage-luxury aesthetic evoking inherited wealth: neutral tailoring, loafers, understated logos.
Opium: A moody, dark aesthetic of washed blacks, distressing, elongated silhouettes and boots; sometimes called 'dark' style.
Quiet luxury: Understated, logo-free style that signals status through fabric quality, cut and fit rather than visible branding.
Techwear: Futuristic, function-first style: matte synthetic shells, articulated seams, straps and modular pockets, usually all-black.
Workwear: Style drawn from trade uniforms — duck-canvas chore coats, carpenter and double-knee pants, heavy flannels and service boots.
Y2K: A late-90s/early-2000s revival: low-rise denim, baby tees, mesh, metallics, rhinestones and butterfly motifs.
